More Hip Than Hippie #147 - Pedal Power

It's bike to work week, so Dori and Val talk about the benefits of biking.

Beer and Chocolate:

Beer: Hop Ottin' IPA from Anderson Valley Brewing Company. Check out Boontling, a type of slang used in the Anderson Valley.

Chocolate: Dark Blueberry Fully Loaded bar by Hebert's Candies.

Hip News and Finds

Finds:

Hip News:
  • A lot of hot air. The Bush administration is urging the federal appeals court to set aside a ruling that gave states the authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Drink it up. Nalegene will stop using plastic containing BPA in response to the recent concerns raised by the National Toxicology Program.

Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢

This week's Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢ comes from Katherine in Barstow, California. Instead of using cotton balls, Katherine cuts an unused sponge into cubes. Just rinse them out when you're finished. They work just as well and reduce your waste.

Pedal Power

Steve O'Brian, owner of Pullins Cyclery here in Chico, stops by to talk with Dori and Val about the ins and outs of biking. Check out the links below for more tips and info.

Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • Recycling school lunch trays. Charlotte wrote in about RecycleTech, a company that created a process that recycles polystyrene lunch trays into plastic that can be used to make CD jewel cases and more.
  • Forks, knives, and spoons, Oh my! Sara is looking for a good alternative to disposable plastic utensils. Val recommends stainless steel cutlery or bamboo cutlery.
