- Biodiesel hits the tracks. Virgin has introduced Europe's first passenger train powered by bio-fuel. The train made its maiden journey across Britain on June 7, 2007.

This week's Hipster Hero is Douglas Tompkins, founder of the North Face. Mr. Tompkins is helping the environment by buying up large tracts of land that will be protected from agribusiness and industrial development. He hopes to one day turn the land over to the government as nature reserves.
