Hip News and Finds

Finds:

  • Goats galore! Meet Phoenix (brown and white) and Panda (black and white), Dori's new goats! Could they be any cuter?
  • There's power in numbers. Artist Chris Jordan is making a statement with his Intolerable Beauty exhibit, which gives viewers a clear idea of what 426,000 cell phones (the number retired every year in the U.S.) looks like.
  • Check it out. Val loved The Dip by Seth Godin. It's a great book about knowing when to call it quits.
News:
  • Job opening in Santa Cruz. The city of Santa Cruz is hiring for a Global Warming Czar. Responsibilities include overseeing solar panel installations and encouraging green businesses to move to the area.
  • Honda's new attempt at an eco-friendly ride. The Honda Civic GX is a natural-gas-powered car that runs off domestically produced fuel.

Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢

This week's Teenie Weenie Greenieā„¢ comes from Laurie, who uses her confetti style paper shredder to make litter for her small animal cages. Just use old mail and bank statements (no plastic envelope windows or staples), shred, and add to the bottom of the cages. It recycles junk mail and saves money on litter.

A Chat with Dan Esty

Professor Dan Esty, co-author of Green to Gold calls in from Connecticut. He talks about the current state of the environment and its impact on the business world. The book studies how businesses are harnessing eco-advantage to create a sustained competitive advantage.

Listener Emails

Once again, we have a bunch of great listener emails. Keep 'em rolling in at hip@greenfeet.com. And don't forget to post articles, links, and speak your mind at our MHTH forum!

  • The benefits of organic farming. Jay found an interesting article about a study that compares the yield of organic crops to traditionally grown crops.
  • Making your next move. Sharon in Chicago wanted to let everyone know about UsedCardboardBoxes.com. You can select a moving kit on their website and then a couple of days later everything you'll need for moving arrives at your door. The kits include overrun or misprint boxes, tape, packing paper, and sharpies.
  • Genius! Ed came across an article about a Chinese farmer who built his own solar water heater out of 66 beer bottles. The water flowing through the bottles is heated by the sun and the routed into the bathroom for showers.
